Commercially Affordable Rams
Our main objective is to produce
profitable and sustainable genetics for commercial producers who
run both lamb and wool operations. We are achieving these goals
by using the most advanced technologies available to assess progeny,
record performance and to provide accurate parent identification
of desirable genetic lines.
What you see is what you get at Lindon Samm. All rams are paddock reared on pasture, allowing them to move into commercial environments. Lindon Samm does not treat for fly strike. Any animal that is effected by fly strike is culled immediately, we are putting pressure on flies and do not tolerate fly strike in our flock.
We believe that SAMM’s are
going to offer a bright future to the Merino producer, allowing
them to diversify into prime lambs and still remain a merino flock,
and also the existing fat lamb producer with SAMM’s offering
industry leading growth rates, dressing percentages, increased fertility
and carcass yields to their existing prime lamb enterprises.

Industry Leading Performance
Lindon Samm DNA tests and performance records every animal on the SGA database, being ranked in the top 10pc of the breed, while remaining the most commercially affordable Prime SAMM seedstock producer in Australia.
The implementation of technology at Lindon is something we believe
will not only enhance our logistics management but also our clients
profitability. These management and measuring tools are used as
a guide, with the priority on commercial reality of farming with
constitution, fertility, mothering, doing ability, adaptability,
etc still the primary focus.
We are continuing the process of
recording and monitoring these genetics so that our clients can
feel safe that they are purchasing high performance Samm genetics
with guaranteed pedigrees, Lambplan figures and structural assessments
on all stock.
We have had clients who after selling
in the sale yards, decided to sell direct to the abattoirs and have
been achieving consistently 47-49% carcass weight and receiving
fat lamb over the hook rates due to good carcass attributes of the
Samm. The lambs were finished on grain in the paddock, rewarding
them with the entire wether drop of lambs averaging $81 for 2005.
The SAMM remains the the only dual true SELF REPLACING meat sheep with Merino wool. If the wool market improves, the opportunities increase for producers, being able to take advantage of both the rising wool market while producing an export quality prime lamb,
In additional to the impressive
lamb results our clients have lost little wool quality. A client
at Bundarra has been very impressed with the “do-ability”
and constitution of the SAMM right through their lives. 21-25 micron
Samm rams were used over 18.5 to 19 micron ewes. The progeny’s
wool at 12 months was tested at 19 micron and 19.4 micron at two
years of age.We look forward
to enhancing our Lambplan figures with our own breeding selections
in the future.
DNA Tested Progeny

DNA
testing occurs on all progeny born on Lindon, not only to provide
us with accurate parentage, but allowing us to work closely with
future Gene Markers such as feed efficiency, worm resistance, fly
strike, black wool, tenderness, temperament, growth rates, muscle
etc, allowing our clients to have access to the latest management
tools to enhance there profitability.
The
DNA testing provides us with guaranteed pedigree’s on all
animals, allowing us to enhance our performance. These pedigree’s
are recorded using Practical Systems latest computer programs, which
are downloaded to a palm pilot for paddock recording and updating
of weights, scanning results etc. We are also working towards electronic
ear tags so we can enhance our management with the palm pilot with
inbuilt reader. We also use mapping programs, with stock management
and movement recording, with the aim to provide more efficient and
accurate information to our clients in the future.
WormSTAR
Lindon Samm is the first SAMM stud in Australia to embrace the revolutionary world leading DNA test for parasite resistance in sheep. This is a new tool to use in your parasite management strategy. The star identifies animals that grow well in the presence of parasite challenge and the other star identifies animals that shed fewer eggs onto pasture. WormSTAR genes permanently improve your flock's natural resistance to parasites. The tests have returned with very exciting news. Not only do our sheep have a very high level of stars. The entire Lindon Samm flock consists of no BAD STARS.
Embryo
Transplant
The
use of Embryo Transfer has allowed us to decrease the generational
gap in the natural breeding cycle thus allowing us to identify superior
family lines.
